Ian Potter

I am a part-time photographer who has been learning the craft since 2017. My curiosity for understanding how things work has driven both my full-time career as an engineer and interest in using a camera as the tool of my art.  Having enjoyed learning to work with my camera so much, I decided to learn how to do my own printing. There’s something special about seeing your work as a tangible item instead of on a screen. Wanting to see the processes through from taking the picture to framing, I then started woodworking so that I could create my own custom frames for my printed works.

I’m a lifelong skier, and on weekends I work as a volunteer ski patroller at the mountain I grew up skiing and still love, Jay Peak, VT. Getting out early and staying on the slopes late into the day presents unique opportunities to capture beautiful scenes in the morning light and evening alpine glow.

I grew up in Northern Vermont and have lived in Beverly Massachusetts since 2011. Having Beverly as a home base has allowed me to explore the North Shore and capture images of the local landmarks and seascapes, not to mention trips down to Boston for city photography.

I hope you enjoy my work!
